walking, drinking, eating, talking August 28, 2008

We are learning that Quinn moves at two speeds- fast and faster. No matter what he’s doing, he’s always moving. Latest example: when we give Quinn a bottle or a sippy cup, he’ll no longer sit or lay down to drink it. He walks while drinking. He’ll fall about every 4 steps or so and get right back up and start drinking again. The only way he’ll be somewhat still while drinking is if I hold the bottle or sippy up to his mouth while he stands next to me. I always feel like I’m feeding a baby goat or something, but at least he’s standing still!
He’s still a hellion in the kitchen, pulling our food out of the cabinet. But it keeps him busy so I can do other things, like pour myself a glass of wine!
This Cheez-It box today kept him busy for a good 20 minutes- and the poor boy never did figure out how to open it!
Quinn is also showing us that he really does watch everything we do and copies us. Which may or may not be a good thing! His new favorite thing is to hold my cell phone up to his ear, open his mouth and go “ah ah ah” while bouncing up and down. If his portrayal of me has any truth to it, I apparently look like a complete idiot when I talk on the phone!
new ears August 28, 2008

Yesterday Quinn had surgery to have tubes inserted in his ears…into his eardrums to be exact. He went into surgery around 8:00 am and we were in the car on our way home by 8:45. It’s a quick surgery- they gave him anesthesia via mask but he wasn’t asleep long at all. He was his usual self within minutes of walking in the door. I wish I had my camera with me when we were in the pre-op room because cute little Quinn was wearing a hospital gown- complete with an opening in the back. There were about 10 other patients, young and old, in various parts of the room with us and I hope they enjoyed Quinn’s early morning, pre-surgery laughing. I think if I were a little nervous about going into surgery, I would definitely want to hear the adorable belly laughs of a baby! The only picture that I have that shows that he had any sort of surgery is this one with his name bracelet and allergy alert bracelet on his leg.

Based on all of the babbling that Quinn is doing, I think he’s going to be a little chatterbox. Not that I’m surprised by that, if I think about his genes! We still don’t understand most of what he is saying, but we’re starting to pick up on some words. So far we have dada, bah (ball), baba (bottle), doh or dod (dog) and today we noticed a new one- baby.
singing August 24, 2008

Ryan is Quinn’s entertainer. He’ll dance, sing and act goofy just to keep Quinn happy. It’s part of the reason he’s an amazing dad. After their dance party the other night, the two of them hopped in the bathtub for a bedtime bath. I had the video camera out and just couldn’t resist capturing the stellar singing that was going on. And Ryan, being the good sport that he is, gave me his permission to post these embarrassing videos. He said he’ll get me back later!
Fenway is blocking the view of Quinn so it looks like Ryan is taking a bath by himself and singing these songs for himself. As hilarious as the thought of that is, I have to point out that Quinn really is in the bathtub and he’s thoroughly enjoying Ryan’s singing.

Quinn is starting to dance just a little bit when music comes on. I see him start to bop ever so slightly and occasionally he’ll really get going. Ryan, as you’ll see, has no problem with his bopping.
play date August 22, 2008

Today Quinn had his first official play date. We went to the Hershey Gardens with my friend and her adorable 10 month old, Josephine. Quinn enjoyed his new status of “walker” in the Children’s Garden and wanted to explore everything on his own. Of course, I was less than a foot behind him and at one point he was done with me hovering over him and actually tried to push me away. He wanted to show his date that he was not a mama’s boy (even though he is!)
cool kid on the block August 19, 2008

Check out Quinn’s new kicks…
He thinks he’s pretty darn cool in them. He strutted his stuff up and down the sidewalk tonight. He was definitely the cool kid on the block- up until the dramatic mini-tantrum he threw when it was time to go inside. He kind of lost his coolness when he fell on the ground, pushed his face into the grass and started whining!

Yesterday we went for a walk at a lake near us. Well, Ryan and I walked, Fenway swam and Quinn strolled and toddled. Quinn is becoming quite the rough and tumble boy- the more action/movement there is, the better. He loves being thrown in the air and swinging around.
And the next picture shows who the fun parent is. Above you see Ryan swinging Quinn around, throwing him, goofing off. Check out my activity…
Reading. Woo-hoo! And that is why Ryan will be deemed the “fun” parent when Quinn is old enough to make that determination and I am fated to be the parent that makes him brush his teeth, eat his vegetables and follow the rules. Oh well, I’m just going to enjoy the next year or so when Quinn still thinks I really am the coolest person in the world!
Ryan was inspired by the Olympics to show off his skill. Pretty impressive, I know.
Mornings August 16, 2008

On the weekends, Ryan and I take turns getting up with Quinn. I usually take Saturdays and he does Sundays. Although I really do love sleeping in until a whopping 8:30, when I’m up for my morning with Quinn I’m always so happy that I’m not sleeping. He’s such a morning guy and is almost always in a great mood- silly, playful, giggly. We watch some cartoons, hang out with Fenway and just play. This morning Quinn decided that sliding off the armchair in the family room was hilarious. He also was all about playing chase- he walks/crawls as fast as he can toward the stairs and listens for me to say “I”m gonna get you” and stomp towards him. Before I even reach him, he’s in a laughing fit. The anticipation gets him every time! Good morning, indeed.
Mr. Mischief August 14, 2008

Quinn wore his “Mr. Mischief” shirt to daycare today and when I picked it up one of his teachers told me that she loved his shirt and it is perfect for him because it fits his personality to a T. Uh oh!
And now for my question of the night- Where has my baby gone? I’m looking at these pictures that I took of Quinn over the past two days and he no longer looks like a baby- he looks like a little boy. Actually, in this picture he looks like Ryan’s mini-me. His outfit is definitely Ryan’s style. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ryan came down the stairs in a matching outfit- short sleeve button downs are kind of Ryan’s trademark shirt…whether I like it or not! Look at my handsome baby little boy.
