Nosey Neighbor April 30, 2008

Quinn is a proud member of the neighborhood watch. Fenway is his trusty sidekick. You can usually find both of them camped out in front of the window.
Quinn on patrol without his sidekick. Notice his muffin top. Just like his mommy
(Funny kind-of-related story- our neighbor directly across the street has a Virgin Mary statue in their front yard. When we first moved here, everytime Fenway would look out the window he would bark and growl, even though I never saw anyone out there. I finally realized that he was growling at the Virgin Mary. No, he is not a Catholic dog!)
NOT chicken pox! April 30, 2008

Quinn has erythema multiforme minor. The doctor told us that it basically means red spots of varying sizes, which is exactly what it looks like. We thought it was a reaction to his first taste of apricots but then daycare called and said they thought he had the chicken pox. So back to the doctor we went (that makes 3 trips in 3 weeks. Ugh.) Luckily, no chicken pox and nothing serious. It looks much better today. These pictures are from yesterday. See all the red spots?
It didn’t seem to bother him much- he was still able to enjoy his bath!
Quinn’s new trick April 28, 2008

Once again, we’ve had to lower the crib. It’s now on the lowest setting. The reason?
We didn’t want Quinn to climb out. This is his new trick. When he is done with sleeping, he stands up and screams (loudly!) until someone comes to get him out. I’m not a fan. This morning he got up at 5:30, drank a bottle and we put him back to bed in his crib in hopes of making his wake time a little later. He was screaming and carrying on so I decided to take a shower so I wouldn’t have to hear it. (Nice of me, huh?) When I came out, all was quiet so I peeked in to check on him. This is what I saw:
One sleeping boy who had tired himself out by standing and crying – He had fallen asleep sitting up. And when he woke up, he was in a great mood. You’d think he would have had a backache or sore neck. If only I were as flexible as he is!
play time April 28, 2008

We spent the weekend unpacking, which I think we’ll be doing for the next year or so. It’s hard to get stuff done with Quinn as a distraction. We still have the play pen set up for him in the living room, which I’ve dubbed “the fun corral.” He can hang out in there by himself for a little, but it’s not long before he starts whining for some company.
Here’s a picture of the fun corral in all it’s glory:
Quinn having fun inside the corral- he’s become very proud of his ability to stand!
Quinn shows me that he is done with the fun corral. He wants o-u-t! (From the looks of the picture, you’d think the fun corral is a horrible place. I think Quinn is a bit dramatic!)
We set up a swing in the backyard for Quinn. He loves it! So we spent a lot of time out there, just swingin’ away.

Ryan also had some play time this weekend, in the form of mowing the grass and using his newly purchased weedwacker. The lawn now looks much better and Fenway doesn’t come inside with huge clumps of grass hanging out of his mouth!
Race for the Cure April 28, 2008

On June 7th, Ryan, Quinn and I, along with some other friends, are going to be participating in the Race for the Cure in Washington D.C. We’re actually walking (not running) the race. And since Quinn doesn’t walk, he’ll be riding stroller-style. This is an important event for us and we’re hoping to raise some money for a good cause. This will be Quinn’s first charity event. If you want to show your support of him and donate towards breast cancer research and education, please click on this link and pledge some money. You can also click on “My Team Page” to view the rest of our team.
Quinn says, “Thanks for your support!”

The fabulous weather we’ve been having lately has given Quinn a chance to wear some of his snazzy warm-weather clothes. Baby girl clothes are definitely cuter than baby boy clothes, but we’ve managed to find some pretty good outfits for Quinn. It helps that he’s the cutest baby ever so everything looks even more adorable on him. (There is no bias in that statement at all:) )
Preppy Quinn:

Apparently it was Hawaiian Friday in our house today. (Yes, the warm weather gives Ryan a chance to show off his snazzy outfits as well!)
Hawaiian Quinn (and Ryan):
Don’t you agree that he actually is the cutest.baby.EVER!?!
no pictures!? April 23, 2008

Last week was so hectic that I didn’t think I took many pictures. I knew I had taken a few- I thought maybe 10 or so. I went to download the few pictures I thought I had and discovered that I had actually taken 80 pictures. 80! Apparently I now take so many pictures that I don’t even realize when I’m doing it. They’re kind of random and each one requires an explanation, so here goes:
Since Quinn is now mobile, I need a way to contain him when I am doing things around the house. Our friends let us borrow this gate that they used with their son. It can twist and turn to form any shape you need it to. So we made Quinn a little cage o’ toys in the living room. He likes to try to climb the gate and whine at you when you make eye contact with him- like a cute puppy in a pet store! Here he is wishing he were on the outside. Fenway is in the background also wishing he were on the outside. My poor boys- they just want to be free.

As I mentioned in the last post, Quinn can now feed himself his bottle. It’s great for us and usually buys us 10 minutes of free time. Here’s a picture of the big guy enjoying his afternoon refreshment.
He also seems to have discovered that his tongue moves in different directions, because he constantly is sticking it out and twisting it around. It’s really funny and he looks like a big goofball when he does it!
I also mentioned in the last post that Quinn is now pulling up on everything. I dropped him off at daycare this morning and he zoomed off and pulled himself up using the exersaucer. I kept moving him away because it was about to tip over on him and finally gave up. He went back for more again and again. One of his teachers said that he is fearless when it comes to exploring. “Fearless” is not exactly what I want him to be when it comes to exploring. I think “fearless” is a synonym for “will be on a first name basis with the doctors in the ER.” See, that’s why I really do need a bubble to keep him in!!!! Here’s some proof that he is indeed pulling up on everything.
we’re back! April 22, 2008

I know, I’m sure you are in withdrawal from seeing pictures of the cutest baby ever. Yes, I’ve been negligient in my posting duties. But for good reason. In the past week, we’ve packed up all of our things, moved to a new house, unpacked some of those things, painted the kitchen, installed blinds and started babyproofing the house. On top off all of that, Quinn had a stomach bug that resulted in some extra laundry, I had the flu that kept me stuck on the couch for 2 days, and Quinn recovered from his stomach bug only to get another double ear infection. Poor Ryan was playing the roles of mom, dad and professional mover. But now, at the start of this new week, Quinn has antibiotics and is on the mend, I’m up and at ‘em, Ryan has dropped the roles of mom and professional mover from his title and Fenway is happily playing in his new backyard outside his new house. And our kitchen is no longer electric blue but rather a nice shade of green- Olive Grove to be exact. Things are moving along!
Speaking of moving along, Quinn is a rock star when it comes to crawling. That boy can move! And he’s no longer just army crawling. He’s now pretty proficient at crawling on his hands and knees, with the occasional army crawl thrown in for speed. He’s a quick little bugger, hence the need for the babyproofing. He also now feeds himself his bottle. I prop him up on a pillow and he holds his bottle with both hands, intently staring straight ahead. When he gets toward the end of the bottle he starts looking around and grinning, with formula all over his face. It’s very cute. I’ll post some pictures soon…as soon as I find my camera. And my computer. And the cable that transfers the photos from my camera to my computer.
Go Red Sox! April 13, 2008

Ryan was very excited to tell Quinn about the outcome of the Red Sox-Yankee game. I showed Ryan this picture and asked him to caption it. He said, “Two things that will definitely be making the move.” Notice I’m not in the picture. I guess he isn’t too worried about me coming along to the new house!
