double trouble February 26, 2008

I took Quinn to the doctor this morning because his little cough had evolved into a nasty sounding cough overnight. I was worried that he had a respiratory infection. Nope, lungs are clear. But the poor boy has a DOUBLE ear infection. The thing is, he’s not grumpy at all. I was shocked when the doctor told me because ear infections are painful and I thought he would be screaming, pulling his ears, etc. Not Quinn. He was laughing at himself in the mirror as he pulled the doctor’s stethoscope and tore apart the paper on the table. He’s been sleeping a bit more than usual but I’ve been attributing that to his busy days and nights of us dragging him around town to look at houses. Just look at my poor baby…
That was taken when we got home from the doctors. He’s awake now and he’s happy. Actually, right this minute he is sitting on my lap smiling at me and I’m pretty sure he’s pooping…the grunting, wide eyes, and rumbling on my legs leads me to that conclusion. I know, I lead a pretty glamorous life. Off to change a diaper!
rock star of the future February 22, 2008

Quinn discovered his piano and drums today. He was banging away on them. He seems to be very into music and noise. Lucky for him it doesn’t seem like he inherited my musical gene…maybe because I don’t have one. I’m pretty much the most un-musical person ever. Ryan, on the other hand, is very into music. It looks like Quinn is going to follow in his footsteps. Anyone picturing a father-son rock band in the future?

Just because I thought this picture was cute…
On another cute note, our dog walker left a note saying she took Fenway for his usual walk today and they passed a house with a baby crying. She said Fenway stopped when he heard the crying, cocked his head, and tried to turn around to come home. She thinks he thought it was Quinn crying. How cute is that?!? Quinn already has quite a protector!

Nothing too exciting going on. Quinn’s doing pretty good with his solid foods. So far he has tried rice cereal, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, bananas and peas. Apples are on the menu for this weekend. I’ve started giving him a sippy cup after he eats filled with 1 oz. of water. He hasn’t figured it out yet but he loves to chew on the spout. And the handle. And the cup.
Daycare is still going well. Yesterday when I went to pick him up he was sitting with a cute little 1 year old girl. Apparently he’d been playing with her for a while and before that was playing with 2 other little girls. They said he was quite the ladies man. Ryan said something about him being a chip off the old block. I just laughed.
Every night Quinn has playtime before we start getting him ready for bed. It usually consists of rolling around on the floor with us, playing with some toys, looking at some books, bouncing in his jumperoo or exersaucer, and putting everything in his mouth. Here are some playtime pictures:

Fenway always joins in on the fun. I thought this picture was funny because it makes Quinn look so small compared to big ol’ Fenway…
a day off February 18, 2008

I had off today for President’s Day. Ryan had to go to work but Quinn and I stayed home. We had a great day…met Ryan for lunch, looked at a house that is for sale, went on a walk with a friend and her baby and played with lots of toys. Quinn was in a fabulous mood today…I think he was happy I had off as well! If only we could have a day off every week.
Neglected dog February 18, 2008

Before we had Quinn, Fenway was our only baby. He still is our baby but now he takes second chair to Quinn. Because of that I have guilt about Fenway being a neglected dog. Ryan always reminds me that he is far from neglected. Neglected dogs don’t sleep on their owner’s beds. Neglected dogs don’t have their own spot on the sofa. Neglected dogs don’t get a specially prepared meal of green beans, sweet potatoes, and dog food twice a day. And if those things don’t prove to me that Fenway is far from a neglected dog, this picture says it all…

Quinn got a new stuffed animal this week to replace his old favorite, Francine the frog, which Fenway ate. Now he has Antoine the donkey and we’re hoping he stays around a lot longer than Francine. We’ll have to inform Fenway of that!
My boys and their stuffed animals:
(We won’t tell you what we actually call Fenway’s stuffed animal. It’s a little inappropriate for the blog!)
And a picture of Quinn and I just hanging out…

I feel like a negligent mother today. I dropped Quinn off at daycare and all of the other babies in the room were wearing cute little Valentine’s Day outfits. Not just red shirts, but bibs, onesies, shirts and pants adorned with hearts and cute sayings, like “Mommy’s little heartbreaker.” Not only that, but their parents brought cute little Valentine’s cards and goodie bags for the staff. Me and Quinn. Nada. No card, no candy, no nothing. He didn’t even have a Valentine’s day shirt. He was just wearing red. I must give credit to Ryan for that. He dressed Quinn today in a red striped shirt, red socks, and a red bib. Very impressive to not only have everything matching but also be color-coordinated for the holiday. That is what I would call an advanced Daddy maneuver! So now we know the rules of daycare. You can be darn sure that when St. Patrick’s Day rolls around, Quinn is going to be ready!
Snow Day! February 12, 2008

My office was closed today because of the weather so I got to spend a day at home with Quinn. You would think that I wouldn’t get as excited about snow days as I did when I was in elementary school but actually, I think I appreciate them even more now. Quinn and I hung out, read some books, played on the floor and tried bananas for the first time- I made them for the first time and he ate them for the first time. I don’t think he was a huge fan of them. To be honest, I tried them and there is something about pureed bananas that is just gross.
I’ve also been practicing taking pictures on manual settings using natural light. Most don’t turn out at all but on occasion I get one that is decent- I consider decent to be not blurry. Here’s one of the decent ones from today:
He did have a shirt on underneath his overalls but he spit up all over it and I was in the process of changing him. This was probably the 4th outfit of the day. I think bananas make him spit up!
Here’s Quinn showing off his rolling over skills. He’s a regular pro and now also squeals when rolling. Please note the perfectly formed cankles!
It’s still snowing and we’re supposed to get some ice tonight. Is it too much to hope for another snow day tomorrow?
