Ryan and I have been trying to find kids music that isn’t completely…well, babyish. I know, Quinn is a baby but that doesn’t mean he can’t be exposed to cool music. So along with NPR and Ryan’s various music choices, Quinn listens to non-babyish kids music. Some favorites: Jack Johnson’s Curious George album, The Beatles Songs for Kids, and these indie rock compilation albums called For the Kids. I came across this song by Over the Rhine on one of those CDs. It’s called The Poopsmith Song. It’s very funny and, unfortunately for me, very catchy. I’ve been singing the verse all night. Click on the play button to listen to the song.

For those of you that can’t download the song, here’s a little excerpt:

Not on your arm
Not on your leg
Not in the toast
Not in the eggs
Not on the carpet
Nor the linoleum
Just how’d your little brother get it smeared all over him
Poop in the potty, poop goes in the potty…

It’s good stuff! We’ll be sure to pull this song out when we’re potty training!

the hat January 27, 2008

After our guests left this afternoon and Ryan went to band practice, I decided to take some more pictures of Quinn (because he didn’t have the camera in his face enough this weekend!) Actually, the real reason I started taking the pictures is because I found this cool hat that I had bought him but discovered that it is completely impractical for him to wear. But it’s so darn cute and I wanted some pictures before he grew out of it…which was today. I could barely get the hat off of him!

He’s such a good sport when it comes to picture taking. He was still smiling at the end!

This weekend my college roommates came to town for a little get together. We had lots of fun, as always, and Quinn enjoyed the spotlight. Fenway did, too! This was Quinn’s first get together and he seemed to fit right in…eating, drinking, and laughing. We’ve discovered that Quinn thinks dancing is funny so we all found ourselves doing a lot of dancing for him. He had us all laughing at his laugh. I imagine if someone was looking in the window it would have looked pretty funny…all of us dancing and laughing and watching Quinn laugh. Our get togethers sure have changed from 5 years ago!

The next day we went to Hershey’s Chocolate World with Meghan and Donnie. It was the first Chocolate World visit for both Donnie and Quinn. Both were awed by all of the lights! Quinn seemed to like the ride. With those singing cows, how could you not like it!?!

a typical evening January 25, 2008

Our evenings usually go like this: feed Quinn, feed Fenway, feed me and Ryan, the whole fam moves up to the third floor and plays and the night ends with a bath, bottle and bedtime for Quinn. Sometimes Ryan and I also have a bottle! Lately Fenway has been joining in on playtime.

I’ve been reading books to Quinn and he seems to have found a favorite – The Very Hungry Caterpillar. He always looks and listens very intently,

Quinn seems to be getting the hang of eating solids. First rice cereal, now toes. What’s next?

Quinn tried rice cereal last night. I guess I would say it was successful- he ate for about 10 minutes, although I don’t know how much he actually ate and how much ended up on his face!

Ryan’s band has a show tomorrow night.  Here’s the flyer:

He is one of the mild heats.  Quinn is too young to appreciate it but hopefully when he is older he’ll think his dad is cool for being a rock star drummer (yes, I’m using the term “rock star” rather liberally!)  Ryan’s already introduced Quinn to the bongos and can’t wait until Quinn is old enough to buy him the mini drum set we saw at Costco so they can drum together.  Most kids start out on that little drum pad that doesn’t make much noise.  Apparently that’s not cool so Quinn will start out on a miniature full drum set (that makes a lot of noise.)  I know I have a few years before this happens but I’m just wondering…

How much does it cost to soundproof a room?

It’s been a pretty uneventful week for all of us, which is just how we like it! Quinn’s doing great at his new daycare. They said he is the only baby in the room who laughs out loud at them. He always has big smiles for me when I go to pick him up- it’s the best sight to see after a long day at work! Here are some pictures from our week:

Quinn still likes sitting in his highchair. Soon he’ll be ready for some food! Maybe this weekend.

What do you mean no food yet?!?

We bought Quinn an exersaucer and he loves it! It’s fun to play with and it’s apparently pretty tasty, too!

I’m always so bummed on Sunday nights because it means the weekend is over. It goes by so fast. We spent the weekend playing with Quinn, going to our friends’ son’s 2nd birthday party, and going to lunch with some friends. Quinn was the man of the hour at the party except, of course, for the birthday boy, who had a blast running around without his pants on.

Happy Birthday Asher!

At the end of the weekend…tired and ready for bed. He looks like he is also sad that tomorrow is Monday!
